Airplane Prop Size What's a bigger money pit: airplane (single prop) or med sized boat (sail or power) ? Any thoughts ?
Hands down an airplane. Here in Aus there is no possibility of any servicing without a certificate of airworthiness issued by a qualified person. Even a straight oil change cannot be entered into the log without the signature of a qualified person. And that signature is going to start at $150 a pop - just for the signature, no labour.

Airplanes... To remain airworthy there are federally mandated annual inspections (plus 100 hr inspections for commercially used airplanes) and repairs (Airworthiness Directives), and insurance is higher due to unlimited liability for anyone who touches the airplane.
Airplane parts are somewhat higher, due to limited production runs, FAA required approvals, and product liability insurance, although boat parts are plenty 'spensive compared to cars.
