Please good people help me with this nightmare! Thank you in advance!
1.Calculate at what speed Earth would have to rotate in order that objects at the equator would have no weight. Earth radius=6400 km. What is the linear speed of a point in equator? What would be length of the day under these conditions?
2. Engines for propeller-driven aircraft are limited in their maximum rotational speed by the fact that the tip speed of propeller must not approach the speed of sound in air. Taking 6 ft as a typical dm for propeller of a light airplane and 1100 ft/s as the speed of sound, find the upper limit on the rpm (revolutions per minute) of the propeller shaft.
1. amusing ! go weightless when speed^2 / radius = g
(g = 10m/s/)
same as radius* angularvelocity^2 = g
so ang velocity = sqrt ( g/ radius)
finally length of day = 1 / (2 pi angularvelocity) [I thope!]
2. At 1 rev per second, speed of prop tip is 2 pi * 6
at 1 rev per minute speed ......... is 2 pi * 6 /60
So, RPM * 2pi*6/60 must be < 1100
Just plug in the numbers!
