Boat Water
Why does the water behind a boat frequently go smooth?
The surface of the water behind boats, especially larger ones tends to go glassy smooth and this can persist for quite a while after the boat has passed. What causes this? I'm guessing it's some kind of surface low-pass effect (as even waves approaching the smooth area are damped) caused by water movement but I can't find any proper explanation as to why it happens. Anyone know?
What you are referring to is the wake of the boat.
A wake stems from a combination of physics effects. First, the boat creates a bow wave in front (the bow) and that pushes water out and away as the boat steams through the water. But as the boat steams on the bow waves slip to the stern (actually the boat overcomes the waves and passes through them). In any case, the bow waves sort of meet at the stern and they tend to smooth out the water behind through destructive interference.
Then there is also the churning of the screws that propel the boat. The churning water disrupts whatever waves are on the surface and becomes smooth with the eddies of the churning water. That also tends to smooth out the trailing water we call the wake.
On a fair seas day, a wake can be seen for hundreds of miles off capital ships. [See source.]

I have a Indian Back water motor boat licence; I want to Drive motor boat at Canada, what is the formalities?
I have a Back Water Motor Boat driving licence, its granted Kerala state government(INDIA). Now i am looking a Job at Europe as a Boat Driver; I dont know about licencing formalities in European country's also they are permit to drive without their licence. If any supperate procedure is there please tell me; also job opportunity's especially Canada.
you need a lot of endorsments on you license and most foregn cuntrys dont have 100 ton captains its usually 500 ton and above needed but you can look up this website reinworldwide.com they are looking for captains but i dont think its what you are looking for but check it out if you have a 100 tone or less
