Car Nitro Buggy
ok so i just got a nitro rc car its an exceed nitro rc buggy and i need help on how to brek in the engine?
ok so i was reading online and it said i should elivate it so that the wheels dont touch anything. After that i thought you let it idle just sitting there for about 4 tanks and then you set it on the ground and then you start to tune it. but im getting confused do i give it throttle while its elevated and not touching anything and also which pins are what whats is the top pin and what is the bottom pin like lean and idle pin or something please please please help thanks
dont do that.try the heat cycling method.i have broken in many engines,so many i quit counting. this is the best way i have found.it goes against what your manual tells u but it will last twice as long and hold compression much longer.1st,heat the cooling head with a hair dryer to loosen the pinch in the motor(this put less stress on the con rod and piston)2nd,start it and set it on ground and start driving it around on pavement for 2 and 3 minute intervals allowing the motor to reach around 200 degrees(at least 200 degrees)then shut it off and allow to cool for 10 to 15 min.(no more than half throttle)(make sure you return the piston to bottom dead center after u shut it off while it is cooling off, an easy way to do this is to pull your exhaust off the moter and look in the exhaust opening an turn the fly-weal and when the piston is at the bottom of the opening this is BDC.now take a permanent marker and put a mark on top of the flywheel by the carb,now you know where bdc is and u only have to do this once.)3rd, do this until u run it for about twenty min total. then ur motor is broken in and u can start to race tune ur engine.(return the piston to bdc after every three min interval)now the top pin is the high speed needle and the bottom pin is the low speed needle. when race tuning your motor start with the hsn first. start turning the hsn counterclockwise in 1-12th increments(look at it like it is a clock to lean the motor turn it counter clockwise to richen the motor turn it clockwise)until you find its top speed. then u can start tuning the low speed needle do the same until u find the best off the line power and remeber u always want blue smoke coming from the engine and if u make it to lean u can ruin ur motor and your idle needle should be on the back of the carb it should already be set but if not turn it in to idle higher or out to lower the idle. when the car is on the ground idling it should not move.(and remember on most engines you wont see its true potential until u have around a gallon ran through it. if u have any more questions u can email me at www.steph_hamill@yahoo.com and i will answer any other questions u have about this wonderful hobby.
