Country Rampage Monster

Does the public outcry against Lovelle Mixon really help the situation for Oakland, CA?
Now, don't get me wrong... It's awful when anyone gets shot... especially when they are just doing their job. And the man who killed 4 cops that day was a terrible criminal who had to be killed to stop his rampage.
But do you think that the racial component in this case has become bigger than the actual murders themselves?
Why is it that when 4 white cops are shot by a black man, or 1 white woman is killed by a black man (OJ?) it makes national headlines and is blasted across Fox News on a steady loop... but not when the situation is reversed?
There are people all over the country talking about what an "animal" or "monster" the shooter is, but they haven't heard anything about the 20-50 black people who were shot by white police officers earlier in the year...

At what point do we get to demand that police answer for THEIR murders in the public forum too?
The issue is more than the shooting of police officers. The neighbors left flowers and made a street shrine in Mixon's honor.
In the immediate aftermath of the shootings, a crowd taunted the police with cat calls of "They deserved it!"
Oakland is one of the top ten most crime ridden cities in the United States. And the response of many of it's residents is to launch a "Stop Snitching" Campaign.
The link you gave did not give the figure of 20-50 police shootings.. I assume that figure is some sort of national average.
In Oakland, 21 people were murdered in the 43 days of 2008.
The majority of them were black.

You'd think rational people in an environment like that would support their police as much as possible.
Here's another source on the murder rate in Oakland,, since you probably will just claim that fox news made the whole thing up.

The point is that the City of Oakland will probably have more than one hundred murders this year, and far too many other violent crimes.
Celebrating the deaths of their police officers isn't going to help that situation.
Trying to link it to the Oscar Grant case is absurd. That shooting happened in 2006, and it involved San Francisco Transit Authority Police.
Mixon was a convicted violent felon, who had broken parole. He panicked during a traffic stop.If the police had known who he was, they might still be alive.
His cousin said "He just didn't want to go back to jail". After his death, Mixon was identified as suspect in a recent rape.
I guess not raping people was too much to ask of him.
