What wide are your eye sockets? Feel their top and bottom edges with your fingers and measure using a ruler?
Mine are 0.5 inches.

Wide Edge Banding with yellow glue
What would be the disadvantage of putting a slight beveled edge on some unfinished wide plank flooring before?
Have sufficent boards to do a room, and the planks are all wondefully planed and sanded, but was thinking of doing a very small beveled edge on the top so that the butt joints would have a little detail to them. These planks are 16 inches wide and over 12 feet long, so they won't have butt joints per se but will be butted against each other side to side, no tongue and groove. Would this be stupid, or actually look good with the beveled edge?
I know it's a late answer. I agree with Da Spurs in that you should use biscuits or a spline since it's not tongue and groove, the boards will expand and contract at different rates leaving trip hazards. Also don't forget to leave a 3/8" gap around all the wall for expansion and cover it up with 1/2" quarter round trim. As for the bevel, I have seen it and it does look nice but here is something to consider: a mop won't get into the V and after after a few years you will have dark lines between planks. This won't be an issue if you are staining it dark. Good luck and happy DIYing.
