Thinking about buying an airplane: Cost question.?

Thanks in advance for reasonable answers!
I am looking at buying a single engine aircraft. Right now looking at a C152 aerobat or something in the Vans RV6/7 line. Something with reasonable performance and economical. I know what I want to spend/can afford and have seen many good prospects on barnstormers.com
My question is: how much does it cost to upkeep an aircraft? Insurance, anuals, TBO, tires, hanger fees, etc. Obviously I can figure out fuel costs at 6gal/hr. Also, I was an aircraft mechanic in the air force for 7+ years. Could I do routine oil changes and other minor maintenance, or are these required to be signed off by an A&P?

you can find a good deal on a C152 for maybe 22500. insurance for a little two seater is not that bad maybe 700 per year. an annual can cost anywhere between 500 to 1500. hangers can be rented for fairly cheaply if you just want a building over your airplane. but if you want pavement, lights and an automatic door that will cost extra. the whole maintenance of the planes is confusing but you used to be an airforce mechanic for years so i dont know if that means that you can or cant. just look at this website for that. http://www.sportair.org/articles/Maintaining%20a%20Production%20Airplane.html
