Small engine carburator question?
I have a craftsman snow blower and I think it's a Tecumseh engine but I'm not sure because I can't find any markings on it. The carb has the fuel air adjustment screw which I believe should be set up to two full turns back from bottom. It also has the same style screw (spring and needle end) in the bottom of the bowl. It holds the bowl onto the carb and adjusts something. What is this adjustment and how should it be set?
I think that your engine is a Tecumseh. On the shroud around the engine you should find some letters and numbers stamped into the metal. HH 66 or something like that. Anyway the carburetor that you are describingsounds like what Tecumseh uses. The small screw is the idle jet and should be about a turn and half out. A little more or less to achieve the best idle. The larger screw on the bottom is the main jet. It is also about a turn and a half out. With the engine running full throttle turn the screw/jet until you get the hightest rpm. A little bit of turning will make quite a bit of difference so just take it slow. If the main jet is changing on it's own you can stretch the spring just a bit to give it more tension. That will mean you have to remove jet all the way, count the turns so you can get it back in close. These are about the last of the ajustable carbs so enjoy it.
