You missed the main thing, Theatre mode!
First off: Congratulations!! Secondly; I feel ya. A year ago I went through the same thought process. It was an interesting transition period and I remember replaying a conversation I had with my then-boyfriend-now-husband just a few short months before we were engaged (and I realize now it must have been a ploy to throw me off his scent, but it still haunted me). I was going on and on about how all our friends were getting married and here we were living in a house together, a couple for 8 years, and still I was ringless — what was wrong with us?To which my then-boyfriend-now-husband responded: “I can’t even clean up my own dishes, I leave my socks all over the house and I play with gas-powered remote control cars on the weekend and you think I’m mature and ready enough to be a husband?” That sentence put me in my place … for a little while. I think maturity is in the eye of the beholder and has very little to do with a successful marriage. A little immaturity goes a long way in a long-term relationship (trust me, humour is good on those days when I discover week-old oatmeal sitting next to the computer or trip on a balled-up sock that’s emerged from under the coffee table).
