The LOON's heads gone again!! Is there a difference between Nitro and Nitrous (with regard to
fuelling an engine?????)
Nitro is nitromethane, like they use in pro dragsters and funny cars. Nitromethane is an organic compound with the chemical formula CH3NO2. It is the simplest organic nitro compound. It is a slightly viscous, highly polar liquid commonly used as a solvent in a variety of industrial applications such as in extractions, as a reaction medium, and as a cleaning solvent. As an intermediate in organic synthesis, it is used widely in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, explosives, fibers, and coatings. It is also used as a racing fuel.
Nitrous oxide is an oxidizing agent used to increase an engine's power output by allowing more fuel (usually gasoline or alcohol) to be burned than would normally be the case.

Is my nitro car engine to hot?
I live in the uk and it is freezing over here. I used my nitro car earlier on today, i was very surprised i managed to get it fired up considering the tempreture. It was running pretty quick but i got worried as the cooling head was so hot. If you placed your finger on it for half a second, it would burn so bad. The engine was running 55% 45% lean so i couldnt see how it was getting so hot considering i was using it in the winter and it was running rich? What im trying to ask is, is it normal for a cooling head to become as hot as that? Or is it a really bad sign and im just increasing my chances of seizing up the engine? Cheers
most nitro engines run somewhere in the mid 200 degrees F (thats like low 100s in Celsius) so it should hurt when you touch it. All engines are different and can run at different temps, but as long as it isnt over like 300 degrees F (135/140 Degrees C) it should be fine. i burn myself whenever i touch mine. from what you've said it sounds like youre ok. You can buy a thermometer designed for nitro engines if you'd like too. Hope that helps.
