Petrol Rc
Can anyone advise on starting Nitro RC truck with broken Pull cord?
i Bought a Nitro pirate .21 truck the other day and was in the process of running in. I was on my third tank of petrol and just about at the end so i shut off the engine to leave to cool . Down. I then brought the truck in and put the after run oil in the cylinder head and tried to crank the engine from the pull cord to circulate the fuel and the cord was locked. I pulled again and still no joy. Anyhow i pulled a bit harder and the cord handle broke and so a panicked. I wiggled the crank underneath and with a pair of pliers pulled the remaining cord which turned the engine over no problem and so the engine has def no seized but the pull cord no longer retracts. I want to buy a starter box as theses pull cords seem rubbish. Do i need to adapt my truck in any way to use one of these or can I just buy one and off i go. Also will i nee to replace the pull cord to use a starter box. Any help appreciated as I am new to RC trucks and i just spent 250 quid.
OK sounds like you've broken the spring coil in the pull start. No panic really, it'll be the first time of many! They are cheap to replace and if you have patience can be done yourself (with a little swearing when they uncoil at 300mph heading towards your eyes). For this time I'd recommend going to a model shop near you and asking them to show you how to replace it.
Right 2nd part, a starter box. Yes you need to take the pull cord off, as a starter box will probably require either an electric start (takes up a fair bit of space and if you racing also weigh a bit) or could convert to drill start (also known as rotary start). While at model shop replacing spring ask them if your truck is compatible, not all of them are (I own 10 and stuck with pull starts on 3 of them so can sympathise).
