I found headers in a junkyard for my LT-1. They have the Y pipe and are cut right before the cat. I've stopped at a exhaust performance shop in town and was told it would be, on the high end, $650.00. Also told that it was a 6 hour job. I know I'll need the header bolts and gaskets. They said maybe 2 sets of gaskets in case the pipe were warped. Does this seem excessive? Thanks for your help!
The bolts and gaskets can be picked up at AutoZone (may have to be ordered). Basically, all you should be paying for is the install of them. If they are warped too badly, you will waste a lot of money just for them to tell you that they won't work.
The price does seem a bit high, especially for a gamble on whether or not the headers fit right. I'd honestly suggest getting some new ones online. It is up to you though.
Check some other exhaust/muffler shops and get multiple estimates. Get the bolts and gaskets yourself, to avoid that markup. That way the only thing you should be paying for is the installation labor. Good luck.
That sounds like it's your exhaust gasket not the head gasket that's leaking,if it was your head gasket, you would be losing compression power and a whistling sound, furthermore if your head gasket was blown because of your engine overheating, the heads would have to be checked for warpage
