Remote Control Boat How does a remote control boat work?
I want to build my own r/c boat but I have no idea how it works.
Also i want to add a few of my own touches like built in camera and wheels to make it a car. NEED help!!
The radio controls servo motors in the boat that can change things like the amount of fuel being sent to the engine, the angle of the rudder, etc.
The radio system consists of a transmitter, which is what the operator holds, and a receiver, mounted in the boat. The transmitter usually has switches, joysticks and possibly other controls which are encoded and sent to the receiver, which decodes them. Once decoded, other circuitry sends signals to the appropriate controls, such as servo motors or relays, to take the action(s) as sent by the transmitter.
Start off with a simple model that you build yourself. If you buy a completely assembled model you will not learn how the systems work.
Another advantage of buying the simple model first is that you will need to learn how to control the boat properly. In other words, you're probably going to crash it a couple of times (or let it get out of range and lose it). So a simple model will be less expensive and your losses will be minimized.
When you see how the simple model works, you can start trying some modifications. One thing to keep in mind is that for each thing you want to control, you will need a separate channel on your transmit/receive system. Increasing the number of channels increases the cost of the system.
