what are the first upgrades i should get for an ion?
ok. so im gonna buy an ion. what should i get first? i will probably get the freak barrel kit but im undecided as to the gas and the hopper.
i want a hopper that can keep up with the gun. i dont know how fast i can shoot but im not slow.
a friend of mine said to use compressed air instead of nitro. 68/4500 tank sound ok? i might get a 70 or 72ci, depending on what i can find. is the 4500psi ok or should i go 3000?
dont run down a list of everything i SHOULD buy, i need to know just the hopper and gas tank. i dont have a lot of money to spend. the rest goes towards paint ($45/case!) and field admissions.
tank weight is not a problem, i will be using a remote line.
is there anything wrong with using co2 on an ion?
I love shopping for people....I'll have a go at this answer....
Let me say that for both air and hopper you have lots of options. Everyone has an opinion about what you should get....what the "best" is. Ultimately you need to make the decision. Talk to guys who actually OWN the equipment you're thinking of buying and ask to see it in action or use it.
HOPPER: The new Viewloader eVLution 3 hoppers are pretty nice. They feed up to 23 balls a second.
Viewloader also makes the VLocity. A great fast hopper.
The Halo series of hoppers are also higher end fast hoppers.
Also the Empire Reloaders are great.
STAY AWAY from Quantum, or any other agitating hopper. They won't keep up.
AIR: The big question I'd ask you here is how you're going to fill it. Are you playing at a local field that you can fill compressed air regularly? Do you have a scuba tank with a fill station? Is there a paintball shop close by that you can get fills?
I ask this to say this.....4500 vs. 3000....you can get some 3000's pretty cheap these days. If you're playing at a local field that has free fills or you buy a fill pass or something, then a 3000 should be fine......the 4500 will give you more shots.
Nitrogen vs. Air.....VERY LITTLE difference. Air is 78% Nitrogen anyway. You will see basically no performance difference in your marker from using Nitrogen vs. Compressed air. Most fields use compressed air because it's cheaper...and lots of places call it Nitrogen anyway....because it mostly is. That's not something that's going to help you out too much one way or the other. They're both clean and will work great in the Ion.
Remember that the larger ci tank you get the more weight you're going to deal with on the back end of the marker. So if you have a fill station close by, and can fill between games, why get a 72?
